The Greeks like to party into the night dancing and eating and drinking.
This city has a great nightlife. Most nightclubs fill up after 12am
and restaurants are quiet up to nine o’clock.
With the picture perfect scenery and the joyful soul of its citizens,
Athens can entertain you 24hours. If enjoying the fun in a traditional
taverna or sitting in a vine covered backyard of a seafood restaurant in
Piraeus, you will be guaranteed great food and great entertainment. The
weather is mostly beautiful which makes dining beneath the stars a reality
in the midst of the Acropolis.
The roof garden of Kyrios Pil Poul and its great view of the Acropolis
is a great spot for some gourmet cuisine. Ta Kioupia in Kifissia has a
great terrace and splendid view with alfresco dining, which has about 40
traditional dishes to choose from.
Dionysos Restaurant the bottom of the Acropolis and Le Grand Balcon in
Kolonaki have great city views and great food.
The Greek wine is excellent and it comes from the Attica region where
the vineyards are around for thousands of years. The wines range from red
and white to the simple retsina.
The appetisers served in the traditional tavernas are known as mezedes
and are more than a meal themselves. The Psirri district, has many tavernas
near Omonia square and Vlassis as well as on Taki street. The old town
of Plaka has tavernas such as Damigos and Xynou which are excellent. On
Monastiraki square there is Bairaktaris which is one of the most authentic
tavernas in Athens.
Restaurants like Ideal on Panepistimiou st. and Yerofinikas in Kolonika
are also worth a visit. In Plaka there is the elegant Daphnes that serves
up Greek cuisine.
Seafood restaurants such as Jimmy and the Fish at Mikrolimano, located
in Piraeus are great, as well as the Caldera in Paleo Faliro, which is
great value. To Varoulko in Piraeus is excellent but expensive and Ithaki
at Vouliagmeni beach is high priced but great quality.
