PATTISSION STREET
This street was officially named Oktovriou st, and is one of the
top thoroughfares in the city. The Technical University is on this
street which is a great example of 19th century architecture. Beside
the university is the National Archaeological Museum, which has
to be said is one of the worlds greatest museums, which holds a
magnificent collection of ancient Greek Art. Past the Kodringtonos
st., one will come across a great collection of boutiques and posh
stores and off the Fokionos Negri pedestrian zone in Kypseli one
can find many tavernas and restaurants and chill out after a hectic
shopping spree.
PIRAEUS
Piraeus is about 10km southwest of central Athens and is the port town
of Athens which is located on a peninsula. Its a very busy commercial
port and has a Sunday flea market near its metro station. The Mikrolimano
fishing harbour is very scenic and is worth a photo or two. Rows of traditional
fishing restaurants can be found in this area. On the eastern coast of
the peninsula at Akti Themistokleous street, one can find more seafood
restaurants. There is an archaeological museum in Piraeus, which traces
the areas 2,500 years of history.
GLYFADA AND VOULIAGMENI
Along the Apollo Coast on the southern suburbs of Athens this place is
situated and has lots of beaches, bars, night clubs and restaurants.
Glyfada has a great golf course and a posh shopping area around Metaxa
street with lots of trendy restaurants and bars. Further south from Athens,
one comes across the exclusive resort town of Vouliagmeni, which is full
of posh hotels, top class restaurants and yacht and sailing clubs. Great
beaches and a great place to practice your water sports with facilities
at the Astir Beach club and the EOT Beach club.
KIFISSIA
On the Northern side of Athens is the suburb of Kifissia, where
the wealthy choose to live. Real estate prices have gone through
the roof here and some say this area is the most expensive in all
of Europe. Luxurious hotels, restaurants and exclusive boutiques
makes this area a pricey rich part of Greece.
