There are more than 370 hotels in the Greater Athens area, comprising
from the youth hostels for the backpackers to 4 and 5 Star hotels
and beach resorts. A lot of the posh hotels are located in historic
landmark buildings as well as contemporary high rises. The location
of your hotel is of highest priority especially in this large city,
where the traffic jams can last for hours at different times of
the day.
When you are sightseeing in Athens, it is wise to stay in the city centre.
The most central spot is the Syntagma square. For shopping, try Ermou street
where it is a pedestrianised shopping zone and the boutiques of Kolonaki
are just around the corner.
Inexpensive hotels are located around the Old Town of Plaka, which is located
about 5 minutes stroll from Syntagma sq.
Around Omonia square is full of reasonably priced hotels and a regeneration
programme has revitalised this part of the city.
Kolonaki is also a beautiful location with a great neighborhood brimming
with up market boutiques and posh restaurants as well as late bars
and night clubs. The Ilissia district is more up market and can
be reached in two minutes by taking the metro from Syntagma square.
One of the main thoroughfares in Athens is along Syngrou Avenue,
which connects the centre of the city with the sea suburbs and Piraeus.
This area has expensive quality hotels. For business and leisure,
check out Kifissia which is in the northern suburb and has lots
of boutiques and nightspots and restaurant.
Many tourists visiting Athens choose the southern suburbs of Vouliagmeni,
which have great beaches and outdoor pools and one can take part
in lots of different watersports. Closer beaches to the city centre
can be found at Glyfada and Voula near Metaxa Street, which is near
several beaches, and also Paleo Falira beach has great accommodation.
Off course we have the best selection of Athens hotels here on this
site!
